    1. Where are Elimelech and Naomi sojourning?
    2. Where have they come from?
  5. What hardships has Naomi endured?
  6. Why does Naomi return to Bethlehem? (verse 6)

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How does Naomi describe God?
    1. What does this reveal about what she believes about God?
    2. Is she right to feel that God is against her?
  2. Why does Naomi urge her daughters-in-law to return to their mothers' houses?
    1. Why would it be difficult for Ruth or Orpa to stay with Naomi and go to Israel?
  3. Were you surprised that Ruth "clung" to Naomi? Why/Why not?
    1. What do you think motivated Ruth to stay with Naomi?
    2. What does this say about Ruth's faith?
  4. How do you see God's providence at work in the story of Ruth so far?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How do you feel after reading? (Perhaps you feel like Daniel in 12:8)
  2. Why do you think God gave this vision to Daniel?
    1. Do you think that the commands to Daniel to "fear not" and the reminders that he is "greatly loved" affected his understanding? (10:11,12,19)
    2. How so?
  3. What is God's goal for those who would receive Daniel's writings?
  4. What do you learn about life and the afterlife from these chapters? (12:2)
  5. Can you match up these visions with any historical events?
    1. Are there any events yet to happen? (i.e. when Jesus returns?)

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. What can we learn from how Daniel responded to the vision? (v. 2, 3, 12)
  2. The kings are described in various ways (11:21)
    1. What are ways that you are tempted towards flattery?
    2. What are ways that you are tempted towards towards contempt or disrespect?
  3. From what happens to the kings and kingdoms in these chapters, how should we think about the rulers and authorities in our own day?
  4. Chapter 12 ends with a promise to Daniel.
