What does it say?

  1. Read Psalm 99
  2. How does the Psalmist describe God in this Psalm?
  3. What does the Psalmist call the people to do?
  4. How does the Psalmist describe God’s relationship to mankind and mankind’s relationship to God?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How would you summarize the message of Psalm 99?
  2. What does it mean God “sits enthroned upon the cherubim” in v.1?
  3. What does it mean to “worship at [God’s] footstool!” in v. 5?
  4. How can God be "a forgiving God to them but an avenger of their wrongdoings?" in v. 8?
    1. How does this point to the Gospel?

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. How can we “tremble” in light of God’s reigning? (v.1)
  2. How is our view of God challenged in light of Psalm 99?
  3. How does this Psalm encourage or command us to respond to God as he has revealed himself?
  4. What does it look like to exalt the LORD our God?
    1. Do we exalt/praise/worship God only when we gather together? Only when we sing?
  5. Sing our new song, "Only A Holy God" in response to this Psalm.

  3. In describing the wicked, what does the Psalmist mean by saying "his iniquity cannot be found out and hated" in v. 2?
  4. According to the Psalmist, how does God care for his people?
  5. How does Psalm 36 point to Jesus Christ?

APPLICATION

How should it change us?

  1. How can the Psalms teach you to pray?
  2. What does it look like to "take refuge" in God?
    1. What does it look like to seek the Father for loving protection?
  3. How are you tempted to walk in the way of the wicked from v. 1–4?
    1. How can you fight these temptations?
  4. Sing "Jesus is Mine" to the Lord.
