OBSERVATION
What does it say?

  1. Read Acts 14:1–28
  2. Where do Paul and Barnabas go?
    1. What similarities/differences are there between the second part of their journey and the first part (Acts 13)?
    2. How long do they stay in each place?
  3. Who else is mentioned in each place?
  4. What do Paul and Barnabas do?
    1. How do the people respond?
    2. What do they say?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. Why did people want to sacrifice to Paul and Barnabas? What's wrong with that?
  2. What do we learn about God in this chapter?
  3. Why did they return to places they'd already shared the gospel (v. 21)?
  4. Why "through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God" (v.22)? What is the kingdom of God? When and how do we enter it?
  5. Why do they return to Antioch do you think?
    1. What do they do there? Why is it important?
  6. What does it mean that "a door of faith" had been opened? Who opened it?

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. What can we learn from their response to persecution?
  2. What ways might you encourage and strengthen brothers and sisters in light of this passage and their example?
  3. How should we think about our tribulations and suffering?
  4. How do we see the gospel lived out in these verses? What might that look like for us at Covenant Hope?

OBSERVATION
What does it say?

  1. Read: Daniel 5:1–31
  2. What happened? Who is mentioned? How are the events described?
  3. What do we learn about King Belshazzar?
  4. Who speaks throughout this passage and what do they say?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How does this story connect, compare or contrast with chapter 4?
  2. What themes or ideas are repeated here from the first 4 chapters?
    1. What is new?
  3. Why was Belshazzar so fearful?
  4. What does Belshazzar offer Daniel and why does he refuse?
  5. Why does Daniel recount the story of Nebuchadnezzar (v.18–21)?
  6. What's Daniel's point in his address to Belshazzar (v.22–23)?
    1. What did Belshazzar know?
    2. How should Belshazzar have responded to what he knew about God? What kept him from doing so?
  7. How does Daniel interpret the writing (v.24–28)?
  8. Try to summarize the whole chapter in a sentence or two.
  9. In what ways might this passage connect to the gospel?
    • How is Daniel's message similar to the gospel?
    • How is it different?

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. What do we learn about God and how should that change us?
    1. What's the danger of knowing about God but not responding humbly to God?
