  1. Read Daniel 10-12

  3. What characters are mentioned?
    1. How are they described?
  4. Do you see any connections to the preceding chapters?
  5. Why has the angel come in 10:12?
  6. How would you summarize these 3 chapters in one sentence?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How do you feel after reading? (Perhaps you feel like Daniel in 12:8)
  2. Why do you think God gave this vision to Daniel?
    1. Do you think that the commands to Daniel to "fear not" and the reminders that he is "greatly loved" affected his understanding? (10:11,12,19)
    2. How so?
  3. What is God's goal for those who would receive Daniel's writings?
  4. What do you learn about life and the afterlife from these chapters? (12:2)
  5. Can you match up these visions with any historical events?
    1. Are there any events yet to happen? (i.e. when Jesus returns?)

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. What can we learn from how Daniel responded to the vision? (v. 2, 3, 12)
  2. The kings are described in various ways (11:21)
    1. What are ways that you are tempted towards flattery?
    2. What are ways that you are tempted towards towards contempt or disrespect?
  3. From what happens to the kings and kingdoms in these chapters, how should we think about the rulers and authorities in our own day?
  4. Chapter 12 ends with a promise to Daniel.
    1. What is the meaning of this promise?
    2. How is this promise similar to the inheritance of Christians in 1 Peter 1:3-5?

    2. What timings are mentioned?
    3. What observations can you make about Daniel's prayer in verses 3-19? (i.e. comparisons or contrasts?)
    4. How is Gabriel described?
    5. What is promised in verses 24?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. Where do you think Daniel was reading in Jeremiah?
  2. Read Jeremiah 29:10-14.
    1. What connections do you see?
    2. How might these words have encouraged Daniel while he was in exile?
  3. Why were the 70 weeks decreed?
  4. There are a few characters mentioned in Gabriel's explanation.
    1. Who do you think is the anointed one in verse 25? 
    2. What about the prince at the end of verse 26?
    3. The desolator in verse 27?

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. What can you learn from Daniel's prayer?
  2. Read 1 John 1:5-9.
    1. Why is it safe for Christians to confess their sins?
    2. How can you grow in "walking in the light" (confessing your sins to God and to one another)?
  3. God's promises to "put an end to sin" and "to atone for iniquity" seem far away for Daniel.
    1. Is God teaching you patience through something in your own life?
    2. How can God's word help you to persevere?
  4. How does Jesus fulfill the promises in verse 24?
