OBSERVATION
What does it say?

  1. Read Daniel 6
  2. What are repeated words/phrases/ideas?
  3. Who is mentioned in the text? How are they described?
  4. What happens?
  5. What kind of texts are included in this chapter? (Narrative, Poetry, Letter)

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. Why did the high officials want to find fault with Daniel?
  2. Why would an injunction to pray to Darius be made? (There may be multiple reasons)
    1. What might that communicate about their view of Darius?
  3. Why do you think Daniel prays the way he does? 
  4. Why does the narrator tells us about Darius's distress at the prospect of Daniel's death?
  5. How would this story inspire those in exile?
  6. How does this story point to the gospel of Jesus Christ? (There are many ways! Spend time thinking of how this story is reflected in the life of Jesus)

APPLICATION
How should it change us?

  1. How does Daniel's example, in the light of Christ, inspire us to live today? 
  2. How do the truths of this passage inspire us to remain faithful to God and not compromise in the face of opposition and even death?
  3. How does it apply to us as a church? How can we together remain faithful to the Lord until our final deliverance?

What does it say?

  1. Read: Daniel 5:1–31
  2. What happened? Who is mentioned? How are the events described?
  3. What do we learn about King Belshazzar?
  4. Who speaks throughout this passage and what do they say?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?

  1. How does this story connect, compare or contrast with chapter 4?
  2. What themes or ideas are repeated here from the first 4 chapters?
    1. What is new?
  3. Why was Belshazzar so fearful?
  4. What does Belshazzar offer Daniel and why does he refuse?
  5. Why does Daniel recount the story of Nebuchadnezzar (v.18–21)?
  6. What's Daniel's point in his address to Belshazzar (v.22–23)?
    1. What did Belshazzar know?
    2. How should Belshazzar have responded to what he knew about God? What kept him from doing so?
  7. How does Daniel interpret the writing (v.24–28)?
  8. Try to summarize the whole chapter in a sentence or two.
