Read Mark 6:7-13

  1. What does Jesus send the twelve to do?
  2. What does it mean Jesus gave them authority?
  3. What instructions does he give his apostles and why?
  4. What was their message and mission?

 

Application:

  1. What do we learn about Jesus in this passage?
  2. What do these passages teach us about rejecting Jesus (or those who go in his name)?
    1. What should we expect?
    2. How should we respond?
    3. What warning is there for us?
  3. Compare and contrast the mission that Jesus has given to the Church/the Apostles in this passage.
    1. What authority has Jesus given us?
    2. What are we called to do?

Jesus has life-giving power

Read Mark 5:21-43

  1. Describe the opening scene of this passage
  2. Who comes to Jesus? What does he want?
  3. What happens on the way to the house?
  4. How is the woman healed?
    1. How does Jesus explain what has happened?
  5. What news does the ruler of the synagogue receive in the meantime? How does Jesus respond?
    1. How do the crowds at the house respond to what Jesus says?
  6. What does Jesus do?
  7. How does the passage conclude? Why does Jesus tell the family not to tell anyone about this?
  8. What is the relationship between the two stories?

Application:

  1. What do these stories tell us about Jesus’ authority?
  2. What is the role of faith in these stories? How should that affect the way we think about our own faith?
  3. What kind of people does Jesus care for? What does this teach us about who we, as Jesus’ followers, should care for?
