INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- Summarize the passage in one sentence
- Who is the author? Is he the same John mentioned in v. 4–8?
- Read John 20:30–31.
- Why did John write his Gospel?
- How does that help us understand these opening verses?
- How does this connect to 1:12?
- Why is Jesus referred to as "the Word"?
- What other passages are alluded to in John 1:1–14? (e.g. Genesis 1:1)
- Why do you think John did that?
- What does this tell us about the identity/purpose of "the Word"?
