  2. What does Baptism symbolize? (list everything from v.1–11)
  3. What impact should that have on our lives?
  4. How should baptism impact our view of sin? Ourselves? Christ?
  5. Following the logic of this passage;
    1. when should someone be baptized? 
    2. how many times should they be baptized?

Lord’s Supper

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 10:17, also read 1 Corinthians 11:17–34
  2. Explain the logic of 1 Cor 10:17. 
    1. What happens when we partake of the Lord’s Supper?
  3. How does the unity of the community relate to the Lord’s Supper? (11:17–22)
    1. Why do you think that is the case?
    2. How ought that to affect the way we view/partake of the Lord’s Supper?
    3. What effect does it have if we don’t? (Between one another, between us and the Lord)
  4. What are/are not the purposes of the Lord’s Supper? (v.23–26)
  5. What warnings/instructions are there for partaking of this meal? (v.27–32)
    1. What does examining yourself look like for you before taking the Lord’s Supper?
    2. What does it mean to “discern the body?
    3. What consequences are possible for not partaking in the right manner?
  6. How does Paul conclude? (v.33–34)

Read Mark 1:1-15

  1. What kind of ministry did John have?
  2. How does John’s ministry relate to and compare to Jesus’ ministry? (note: compare their messages, status, baptism, etc.)
  3. What does Mark want us to know about Jesus identity as he begins his book?
    1. How does he show it?
  4. What is revealed about Jesus relationship with the Father and the Holy Spirit, and how?
  5. Why is Jesus tempted in the wilderness?
  6. How does Mark summarize all of Jesus teaching? (v. 14-15)
    1. Unpack each part and discuss what they mean.
    2. What does Jesus call people to do?

Application:

  1. What does Jesus call to repent mean? Are you actively repentant of your sins? What does that look like day to day?
  2. How can we grow in being repentant?
  3. What do followers of Christ trust in?
  4. What does an active faith look like and how can we grow in faith?
