John 9:1-41 | Bible Study Questions
COVENANT HOPE CHURCH
| 13 OCTOBER 2022
OBSERVATION
What does it say?
Read John 9:1-41.
What characters are mentioned in our text and who are they?
Do you notice any repeated words or ideas? (even from previous sections of John)
How is Jesus described in this chapter?
What question do the disciples ask Jesus in v. 2?
How does Jesus answer? (v. 3, 41)
What do the Pharisees think? (v.34)
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
How is it that the man born blind "displays God's works"?
Do you think it's fair that God would take away sight for this purpose?
How does this story show God's sovereignty?
What about God's grace?
What would you say is the Pharisee's biggest problem with what has taken place? (v.24)
Why did they cast out the man?
What does it mean to "cast out" someone?
What does Jesus say is the reason he came into the world?
How would you describe his judgment in v.39?
What other reasons was Jesus sent into the world (cf. John 3:16, etc.)
APPLICATION
What will I do?
What do we learn from the Pharisees about religious pride?
How can we guard against religious pride in our own lives?
What does it take for us to be healed of spiritual blindness?
How does Jesus' treatment of the ex-blind man reveal Jesus' character?
How does that lead us to worship?
Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
Sing
Amazing Grace
to God and to one another.
