John 16:4b-15 | Bible Study Questions
COVENANT HOPE CHURCH
| 25 MAY 2023
OBSERVATION
What does it say?
Read John 16:4b-15.
Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
How does Jesus describe the Spirit in this passage?
What will the Spirit
do
?
Are there any words you need to define before moving to interpretation?
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
What are the "things" Jesus has said (that he did not say from the beginning)?
Where is Jesus going? (John 14:12, 28)
Why do you think that the disciples are filled with sorrow by Jesus leaving?
Have you ever wished that Jesus was here with us so that we could talk to him and ask him questions?
Why do you think Jesus say it is better for the disciples to have the Spirit with them rather than to have Jesus physically with them?
How can you respond to someone who said they wished that they were around when Jesus walked the earth?
In this passage, there are at least 4 things that Jesus says the Spirit will do: convict, guide, speak/declare, and glorify.
Which one of these things stands out to you?
How does the Spirit speak Jesus' words today?
APPLICATION
What will I do?
The Spirit is called the "Spirit of truth". How can you pray more for the Spirit of God to lead you into the truth of His word?
The Spirit has been sent to "convict the world".
Do you see the world around you convicted of guilt?
How can you pray and live in such a way so that the Spirit works to convince your friends and neighbors of their need of Christ?
Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
Sing
Holy Spirit
to God and to one another.
