OBSERVATION
What does it say?
- What key terms are repeated in Colossians 1:15-20? (Eg. He is, all things, through Him)
- What characteristics regarding the deity of Christ is highlighted in this passage? (Colossians 1:15-20)
- What aspects of creation do we observe in verse 16-17? (Colossians 1:16-17)
- How is Jesus illustrated in relation to the church in verse 18 and why? (Colossians 1:18)
- Who was “pleased” to dwell in Christ according to verse 19. Also observe how & why? (Colossians 1:19-20)
- How is the “reconciliation of all things” and “making peace” made possible? (Colossians 1:20)
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- What does it mean that Jesus is "the image of the invisible God" (v. 15)? (Colossians 1:15)
- How does the phrase “first born of all creation" point to the deity & preeminence of Christ, rather than suggesting that He was a created being ? (Colossians 1:15-17)
