What does it say?

    1. What is the significance of the “third day” in Esther 5:1 in the context of the previous chapter? (Esther 4:16 - 5:1)
    2. What does king Ahasueurus offer to Queen Esther? (Esther 5:3,6)
    3. What does Queen Esther say to the king? (Esther 5:4,8)
    4. How did Haman respond after the feast? What changes Haman's mood? What does Haman tell his friends and family in V:12-13?  (Esther 5:9-13)
    5. What do we  learn in this passage about Haman’s wife Zeresh? (Esther 5:14)
    6. As the king could not sleep, what did he order to be brought? What does the king discover as he reads? (Esther 6:1-3)
    7. What remedial action did the king take with regard to the oversight of not rewarding Mordecai for his trustworthy action? (Esther 6:4-11)
    8. How did Haman respond to the king's question about rewarding the man whom the king delights to honor? And what action did he take? (Esther 6:6-13)
    9. Esther begins to pour out her heart in verse 3. What qualifications does she mention in her response to the king and what does she ask for? What does Esther begin to expose? (Esther 7:3-4)
    10. How does the king react to Esther's revelation? What does he see when he comes in from the palace garden and how does he interpret it? (Esther 7:5-8)

INTERPRETATION

What does it mean?

    1. What additional information do we gain about Haman in this Chapter? How is his character further revealed through his elation, anger and boasting? (Esther 5:9-14, Ref: Prov. 14:29, 29:10, 29:11)
    2. In Esther 5, why might Esther be acting so slowly, carefully and methodically throughout this chapter as she works her way towards making a big request to king Ahasuerus? 
    3. Summarise how the hidden hand of God works through the people in this chapter to move the story forward? Note which of these people initiate and which ones are passive responders? (Esther, King Ahasuerus, Haman, Zeresh)
    4. How does this passage in Esther 6 deepen our understanding about God’s providence and of how He works in the seemingly random details of life? (Ref: Prov. 19:21, Prov. 21:1-8, Col. 1:16)
    5. Haman assumes that the king delights to honour him in Esther 6:6. In what way is Haman’s view of himself distorted?
    6. What seems to be significant about the words of Haman's family in Esther 6:13? What may the author be trying to help us notice and understand?
    7. Read Phil. 2:10-11. How does this point to a greater man whom God delights to honour? What choice will the world have as far as bestowing ultimate honour on Jesus?
    8. Review Esther’s carefully chosen words in verses 3-4 and summarize the various ways she appeals to the king? (Esther 7:3-4)
    9. What light do the following passages shed on God’s sovereign work in the book of Esther up to this point? (Job 42:1-2, Psalm 75:6-7, Daniel 2:20-22, Romans 13:1)

What will I do?

    1. What warnings should we take from these passages, as we observe the words and actions of Haman? Consider repenting and turning away from these sins.
    2. How does this passage give us a small glimpse of the privilege of the access we have been granted to the presence of God through the grace of Jesus Christ?
    3. How can we more actively trust God’s providential work in our life even when we can't see it?
    4. How might God be calling you to reveal more boldly your Love for Jesus and your commitment to his word?
