OBSERVATION
What does it say?
Read
Matthew 28:16-20
What characters are mentioned in our text and who are they?
Where do they go and why?
How do they respond to Jesus?
Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
What does Jesus say?
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
What is significant about the setting in vv.16-17?
How does Jesus' words in v.18 connect to his commands in vv.19-20?
The main command is "make disciples," what does that mean?
How are they to do this? What does that mean?
Of whom should they do this? What does that mean?
Where do you think this takes place? Where are disciples taught to observe all that Jesus has commanded us?
How do Jesus' final words fit with what he has said? How are these words emphasized?
Why do you think Matthew concludes his gospel with these words of Jesus?
APPLICATION
What will I do?
What do we learn here about the mission of the church?
How do individuals participate in this mission?
How do congregations participate in this mission?
What do we learn about Jesus and his church from this text? What difference does
that make to our obeying this text?
What impact might this have on your discipleship?
How might you pray in light of this?
