INTERPRETATION

What does it mean?

  1. How is wisdom described in this text?
    1. When is it wise to listen to your father's instruction and your mother's teaching?
    2. When might it be unwise to listen to them?
    3. What is the result of listening to and wise teaching and instruction?
  2. What does it mean to "entice" someone?
    1. What is enticing about what the sinners are asking? (v. 13-14)
    2. What do they intend to do to others?
    3. What is the ultimate result? (v. 18)
    4. There may be exceptions to this rule. Not all evil men end up dead because of their evil actions. Some may die quietly in their sleep. Do you think this affects the principle that Solomon is describing?
  3. How are the commands in Proverbs 1:10 and Proverbs 1:15 similar?

  1. If you have children, would you describe your instruction to them as a "graceful garland for their head" or a "pendant for their neck"? Why or why not?

    1. What can you do to "hold back your foot" and "not consent" to their enticement?
    2. What can you remind yourself of when faced with the enticement of sin?
