INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- Wisdom is personified as a woman once again in Proverbs 9:1-12.
- What is the significance of all the work that wisdom has done? (verses 1-3) [a banquet!]
- Whom does wisdom call to?
- What are some of the reasons that she gives us to listen to her?
- How is listening to wisdom connected to listening to reproof or instruction? ("reproof" is criticism for a fault)
- What characterizes the heart of the wise in verses 8-9?
- What does this lead to?
- "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (v. 10) is foundational to the book of Proverbs. Solomon said it in 1:7 and repeats it throughout the book.
- What aspect(s) of wisdom characterizes those who fear the Lord here in chapter 9?
- Folly is also personified as a woman here in Proverbs 9:13-18.
- What is the "work" that folly has done? (verses 13-15)
- Whom does folly call to?
- How would you feel if you were invited to a banquet, but arrived to find only bread and water... and the host was bragging about how everything was stolen? (v. 17)

- The gospel says that you're a sinner and that you deserve God's wrath for your sin. But God, in his love, sent Jesus to pay for our sin and give us His righteousness--His wisdom.

- How can you grow in responding to criticism this week?
- Pray in light of this passage and any applications you've made.
- Sing Turn Your Eyes to God and to one another.
