- What characters do you see?
- What pronouns are there? (He, She, Them, etc.)
- Can you identify who the pronouns are speaking of?
- What time indicators are mentioned?
- Do you notice any comparisons or contrasts?
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- Who are the "Fathers"? Wo are "the Prophets"? Who is "us"?
- What do you think these last days are referring to?
- What are the 2 eras of history that the time indicators are pointing us to?
- Why do you think the author wants to draw our attention to?
- What do we learn about the Son?
- What works has he done?
- What's the connection between Father and Son?
- How did the Son make purification for sin?
- What do you think it signifies that "he sat down" after doing so?
- What's the connection between the Son and the Angels?
APPLICATION
How should it change us?
- What application does the author give? [no imperatives...]
- So then what should we take away from these verses?
- Flip ahead to Hebrews 2:1 and read it. This warning gets us closer to the author's main point for the people he's writing to--"Listen" and "Don't fall away"
- How might understanding who Jesus is in Hebrews 1:1-4 cause you to "listen" to him and not "fall away" from him?
- How can you take steps this week in these things?
- Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
- Sing Speak O Lord to God and to one another.
