    1. What do you think it means that he was "waiting for the consolation of Israel" (verse 25)?
      1. What does consolation mean?
      2. Simeon was not the only one waiting for the coming Messiah (Luke 2:38, 24:21, etc.).

APPLICATION

How should it change us?

  1. What does "salvation" mean to you?
    1. Simeon's encounter with Jesus might be summed up well in verse 30 "...my eyes have seen your salvation." Rather than sending us a program for self-improvement or an impersonal force to guide us to better living, God sent a person to us.
    2. What might this help us understand about salvation?
    3. How does your relationship with Jesus affect the other relationships and commitments in your life?
  2. Have you seen the gospel turn some people away, like in verse 34?
    1. What does this verse mean for us today as we seek to make disciples of "all peoples" (v. 31)?
  3. Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
  4. Sing O Come, O Come Emmanuel to God and to one another.
