  1. Read Proverbs 1:20-33.
  2. Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
  3. Do you see any parallelism?
    1. Parallelism is a commonly used in Hebrew poetry, and it is a way to emphasize certain words, phrases or ideas. In the Bible, it's often seen when a line uses synonyms to say essentially the same thing as the previous line.
    2. For instance in verse 20, wisdom "cries out" in the first line matches with "raises her voice" in the second. In the first line it's in the "street" and in the second line it is "in the market".
  4. Who is speaking in these section of Proverbs?
    1. Who is she speaking to?
  5. What is the content of her speech?
    1. How would you summarize what she is saying?

INTERPRETATION

What does it mean?

  1. How is wisdom described in this text?
    1. How would you define reproof? What does it mean to turn at reproof?
    2. What is the result of listening to wisdom and turning at her reproof?
    3. Wisdom cries out in the cities, marketplaces, and streets (v. 20-21). What does this tell you about the place God's wisdom has in the world?

  2. When was the last time you encountered God's wisdom and put it into practice in specific way?
    1. How can you grow in being a doer of God's word and not just a hearer? (James 1:22)
    2. Has God placed a person in your life that you can share His wisdom with?
    3. How can others be praying for you as we seek to grow in godly wisdom and share it with others in our daily lives?
  3. Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
  4. Sing Holy Spirit (Living Breath of God) to God and to one another.
