- What is the result of these commands?
- What imagery do you see? (things like analogies, metaphors, similes, etc.)
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- What is a "forbidden woman"? ( Proverbs 5:3, 20)
- Why do you think her lips are described as "sweet"?
- What are the consequences of listening to her?
- Why do you think the consequences are so severe?
- How is discipline (Proverbs 5:12, 23) related to wisdom and avoiding the "forbidden woman"?
- What is the positive command given by the Father? (Proverbs 5:15-19)
- What do you think it means to be "intoxicated" with your spouse?
- How do the last few verses give motivation to the commands we've seen? (Proverbs 5:21-23)
- If you had to summarize the commands in verses 20-27 into one phrase, what would you say? What is Solomon commanding his son to do?
- Are there any new aspects to his commands compared with other things we’ve seen so far in Proverbs?
APPLICATION
How should it change us?
- Think about the commands in these verses. How do you think they apply to Married Christians today? What about single Christians?
- If you're married, how can you "rejoice" in your spouse this week?
- If you're not married, how can you rejoice in the season that God has you in?
- Have you heard stories about Christians failing to walk wisely in their sexuality? (maybe you know someone personally who has not listened to these wise instructions)
- What would it look to walk in discipline in this area of your life?
- How can you help each other to avoid the snares of forbidden sexual temptations?
- Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
- Sing Come Thou Fount to God and to one another.
