  3. Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
  4. How is Jesus described in these verses?
  5. What are the blessings for in verse 3?

INTERPRETATION

What does it mean?

  1. Have you ever studied the book of Revelation before?
    1. When you think about reading or studying it, how does it make you feel?
  2. In chapters 2-3, John will call for believers to be faithful witnesses to Christ despite persecution. How might the descriptions of Jesus in Rev. 1:5-7 encourage those believers?
    1. What do these verses tell us about what Jesus did accomplish and will accomplish?
  3. Why was John on the island of Patmos? (Rev. 1:9)
    1. How might John's situation help him relate to his readers?
  4. Read Daniel 7:9-14 and Daniel 10:5-6
    1. What are the similarities between these Old Testament passages and the description of Jesus in Revelation 1:12-16?
    2. Are any of the similarities surprising?
    3. What do you think is the significance of these descriptions of Jesus (white hair, eyes like fire, etc.)?
  5. Do you have any questions still still lingering in your mind? What are they?

    1. What difference does it make to know that Jesus loves to encourage his people that he is overcoming the troubles of the world?
    2. What can you do this week to rest
  3. Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
  4. Sing The King in All His Beauty to God and to one another.
