- Who is writing this letter? Who is it addressed to?
- Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
- How is Jesus described in these verses?
- What are the blessings for in verse 3?

INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- Have you ever studied the book of Revelation before?
- When you think about reading or studying it, how does it make you feel?
- In chapters 2-3, John will call for believers to be faithful witnesses to Christ despite persecution. How might the descriptions of Jesus in Rev. 1:5-7 encourage those believers?
- What do these verses tell us about what Jesus did accomplish and will accomplish?
- Why was John on the island of Patmos? (Rev. 1:9)
- How might John's situation help him relate to his readers?
- Read Daniel 7:9-14 and Daniel 10:5-6
- What are the similarities between these Old Testament passages and the description of Jesus in Revelation 1:12-16?
- Are any of the similarities surprising?
- What do you think is the significance of these descriptions of Jesus (white hair, eyes like fire, etc.)?
- Do you have any questions still still lingering in your mind? What are they?
- What are some possible answers?

How should it change us?
- How is the imagery of Jesus in Revelation 1 different than how the world might think about Jesus?
- Is there an aspect of Jesus that you tend to overlook?
- What troubles in the world today, or in your life, make you feel scared or defeated? (technology, work, etc.)
- What difference does it make to know that Jesus loves to encourage his people that he is overcoming the troubles of the world?
- What can you do this week to rest
- Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
- Sing The King in All His Beauty to God and to one another.
