- The soldiers clearly miss the point of what is happening, and it's possible for people today to miss the point of the cross through distractions or over-familiarity with the story
- What could you do to focus your mind on what John is saying about Jesus' death on the cross?
- How is Jesus an example for us in these verses?
- More importantly, how is he a substitute for us?
- Do you ever wonder about your own assurance?
- Jesus doesn't say, "now I've done my part, make sure you do yours..." He says, "It. Is. Finished."
- How can the fact that "it is finished" encourage you to obey Jesus day by day (if you're a Christian)?
