What does it mean?

  1. John makes it very clear that he saw these things take place (John 19:35)
    1. What does he want the reader to know is true?
    2. Why does he want the reader to know it's true?
  2. What Old Testament quotations do you see? Where are they quoting from?
    1. What is Exodus 12 all about?
      1. How is Jesus similar to or different than the Passover Lamb?
    2. Read Zechariah 12:10
      1. What is the result of "looking on him whom they have pierced."
      2. Read John 16:16-22. What does Jesus promise will come after sorrow?
  3. What do you think is the significance of the two characters mentioned in verses 38-42?
    1. Joseph of Arimathea was a rich man (Matthew 27:57). How does this fulfill the scripture of Isaiah 53:9?
    2. Nicodemus had earlier come to see Jesus by night in John 3. What do you think it means that he now came to Jesus in the daytime?
