- Do you notice any repeated words or ideas?
- How is God mentioned and described in this passage? If He is not mentioned, what other characters do you see? How are they described?
- What commands do you see?
- What is the result of these commands?
INTERPRETATION
What does it mean?
- What do you think it means to "gain insight”? (Proverbs 4:1,7)
- How does the text say that a son is able to gain insight?
- Who is the author’s father? (verse 3)
- What does it tell you about his father’s instruction that he wanted to pass it down to his sons?
- Read Deuteronomy 4:9-10. How does this text relate to what’s happening in Proverbs 4?
- If you had to summarize the commands in verses 1-8 into one phrase, what would you say? What is Solomon commanding his son to do?
- Are there any new aspects to his commands compared with other things we’ve seen so far in Proverbs?

- What would it look like for a Christian to “forget” wisdom?
- What might it look like for a Christian to “forsake” wisdom? (Knowingly or unknowingly)
- How would prizing wisdom affect our relationship with God? How would your relationship with God affect your desire and access to wisdom?
- Which command stands out as one that you could grow in?
- How can you grow in remembering and not forsaking wisdom in that particular area this week?
- Pray in light of this passage and about any applications you have made
- Sing Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow to God and to one another.
